The upcoming November 19th local government elections will be the most “plugged-in” in Okanagan history.
Never before has it been easier to contact candidates, research their platforms; or even question them individually. It’s never been easier to get engaged in the democratic process.
From any computer or smart phone most central Okanagan voters are able to directly contact candidates or browse their platforms, bios and websites. It’s pretty easy, given that most government bodies have set up web pages with “one-stop shopping” for voters.
However they are not all created equal. Some are great. Others are definitely in the “Why did you even bother?” category.

I took in Kelowna Actors Studio production of South Pacific the other night.
Amazingly good. I don't know why this uber-talented group refers to itself as amateur. They are consumate professionals and it shines through in every line, every stanza and every lighting cue in this latest effort.
At first blush some might want to dismiss this outright as another sappy Rogers and Hammerstein musical but keep in mind the weighty themes: racism, interracial marriage and cultural prejudice...Pretty heady stuff considering it was written in 1949.
More impressive still; it was written by and for Americans at a time when racism was an accepted part of everyday life. If I told you one of the characters pays for his misplaced beliefs with his life, well that would be giving too much away.

Overheard on the police scanner this morning at 5:30am (PST)
Cop 1: "Just out of interest, anybody know what time the Royal Wedding is?"
Cop 2: "They're already married."
Cop 1: "Why would they get married in the middle of the night?"
Cop 2: "It's called a Time Zone. Maybe you've heard of it - they're 8 hours ahead."
Cop 1: "10-3"(stop transmitting)
