Grad kidnapping pranksters may face school discipline

4/17/2012

A group of male high school students who staged a phony kidnapping have to wait before they find out whether they'll face punishment at school.

The Central Okanagan School District is still collecting all the details before officials decide.

School District 23 Superintendent Hugh Gloster says the tradition of 'grad kidnappings' needs to stop and says its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

"The grad kidnapping seems to be something that has evolved into a local tradition here in the Central Okanagan and its not a practise that exists in all School Districts across the province."

"This is one that has resulted in kids ending up in hospital or in some way embarassed."

Mounties gave a stern lecture to the students after they were seen leaving a home in Glenmore on Monday night.

Witnesses saw them speeding away in several cars while wearing face masks and carrying what looked like machine guns.

Police have already said there likely won't be charges.
