Target takeover means Kelowna Zellers employees must re-apply for jobs
Workers at Kelowna's Zellers store will have to re-apply for their jobs.
Employees across the country will have to convince American retail giant Target to hire them before Zellers stores are taken over next year.
Lisa Gibson, spokesperson with Target's Canadian division, says all Zellers employees are guaranteed at least an interview at job fairs the company is planning but it may not lead to a permanent position.
"Target is committed to making it easy for not just Zellers employees but for all Canadians who are interested in working for Target."
"We're really just looking for the best retail team we can get."
She adds the company has already started their search for new employees.
"Target is going to be hiring 150 to 200 team members per store and when we look at BC, we have actually started hiring for what we call 'store team leaders' and those would be store managers."
Gibson says Target is looking for workers who are willing to work in different areas of the company over their tenure.
The company can't say yet what kind of wages and benefits they can expect.
Officials promise the pay will be "competitive."
