Teachers legally permitted to withdraw from extra curricular activities
The President of the Central Okanagan Teachers Association is very happy with a decision made by the Labor Relations Board regarding extra-curricular activities.
The LRB ruling that teachers are legally permitted to withdraw from voluntary extra curricular activities as part of their job action.
Alice Rees says the ruling says a lot.
"The collective agreements recognize that teachers give a tremendous amount of time. They had, in the agreements, some protections around that. That language has been respected and affirmed by the LRB."
The LRB did rule that teachers must conduct teacher-parent and other important meetings, and failure to do so would be considered illegal job action.
