RCMP begin lengthy investigation into cause of hotel fire
Kelowna RCMP have their work cut out for them as they investigate a suspicious fire at the Coast Capri Hotel over the weekend.
Cst. Kris Clark says investigators have a massive amount of footwork to complete, including speaking with hotel guests, staff and gathering surveillance taken from the hotel and surrounding businesses.
Clark says there is an experienced team within the Kelowna RCMP detachment that is taking over the file.
"We have specifically trained members here that deal with this a lot. They have training in arson investigation and fire investigation. We've got a really good team that deals with arson."
Over 380 guests were evacuated from the hotel around 1:30 Saturday morning after heavy smoke filled many of the hotels hallways.
Fires were found burning on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors.
Cost of damages is estimated at 100,000 dollars.
