RCMP and Dog Control officers were called to the Real Canadian Superstore on Baron Rd. this afternoon following reports that a dog had been found dead inside a vehicle.

Two Kelowna women, aged 29 and 30, had been detained by a Loss Prevention Officer for allegedly shoplifting.  The officer noticed the dog inside the vehicle and called police.

RCMP Constable Kris Clark says,"He (the Loss Prevention Officer) apparently made a discovery that they (the two women) had left their dog inside their vehicle.  When police arrived, they noted that a small breed of dog was found to be deceased, it appeared to the police officer that the dog had succumbed to the heat inside the vehicle."

Clark also says it is too early in the investigation to determine if charges will be laid in connection with the death of the dog.

The 29 year old woman faces potential charges of theft.
