Local reporter won't face charges for buying marijuana

Crown Counsel will not be pursuing criminal charges against a reporter in Kelowna who videotaped himself buying marijuana.

Former Castanet reporter Kelly Hayes had gone undercover to buy marijuana from an alleged dealer living in an apartment complex after one of their neighbors filed a complaint and later posted the exchange online.

Kelowna RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says Hayes has been warned.

"He now fully understands he had no legal authority to possess a controlled substance, regardless of his intentions and that future actions may result in criminal charges."

Clark says he cannot comment on why no charges are being recommended.
