How many times have you donated blood?

A Kelowna man has hit a blood donation milestone that only few people ever reach.

Ken Davies donated blood for the 500th time in his life.

Davies, who is now 70 years of age, still remembers his first donation.

"I just turned 18, and there was actually three or four of us who decided it was a good idea.  I started then and have been doing it ever since."

Davies has an interesting way of describing giving blood.

"I've just always done it and always thought it was a good thing to do.  It's an extremely good thing for you're health.  When you give blood, it's like an oil change in a car."

He says a lot of older people don't realize that they can donate up until they pass away.

His next goal is to hit 600 blood donations.
