Computer virus could be Internet address based

Residents are lining up at computer repair shops after an Internet scam hit the Okanagan.
Kelowna RCMP issued the warning after the virus claimed to be coming from police or Canadian government.
Ken Pryce, lead technician with Next Generation Computers, says there isn't much people can do.
"At this point no. Every customer has different versions of virus scanners on their machine and anti malware software. Whether it's Norton, McAfee or free stuff, and it's getting by everyone. It's definitely a new style of infection but it doesn't seem that anybody is going to any specific webpage."
Pryce believes it could be linked to an Internet address.
"You basically have Internet address for each computer, like house addresses, and it seems to be broadcast to every address out there. If you have the security hole, then your computer gets infected."
The virus seems to only be hitting Windows-based computers.
