Who wants to play hookey today? What an absolutely gorgeous day outside! Doubley nice after the grey rain of yesterday - was hard to stay focussed this afternoon. Love that spring is basically here but I am so not ready for yard work. Raking, aerating, seeding, watering (only on allotted days of course), whateverelsing... Plus I had two Cedar Trees die over the winter. This makes me angry. Not because of the work I will have to do to replace them but now two trees will be smaller than all of the others. OCD. Right now I have chosen to keep the blinds looking into the back yard closed - if I ignore it - it will go away. Or maybe some one wants to do the work for me? Anyone...?

Aaaalright here we go! Another round of Man Cave! I, and Phil Johnson - perhaps you have heard of him, will each be taking a qualifier EVERY DAY for the next two months. Culminating in a riveting Grand Finale at Kelowna Pool Tables. Listen for you cue to call...get it... CUE to call...LOL and be the designated caller. Go to our contests page for more information
In other news - I received a jury summons. Does this seem like a good idea to you? Me, a talk show host of a current affairs magazine style radio show...on a NEWS TALK SPORTS radio station?! Yah me neither, but we shall see. I have sent in the appropriate papers to the appropriate authorities making not of the appropriate information. The question is will they pay appropriate attention...? Stay tuned

Welcome back to Monday! So the question I have for you is deep down inside...really, truly...did you expect the men's hockey team to beat the U-S? After watching their play against Norway and the Swiss I was nervous. The cocky talk made me nervous, the boasting - yup that too - made me nervous. I'm not a big believer in trash talking or cockiness. I am a believer in actions and how they speak volumes more than any words. Whether its sports or life. And the Canadian men did not seem to be performing to what should have been their 'dream team' (at least on paper) potential. Add to that Brodeur who clearly was not at the top of his game and a coach (Babcock) who refused to acknowledge that and act upon it we get a 5-3 loss. Not surprised, the team that played the best won. Perhaps Canadian hockey players and coaches should stop behaving and talking like it is their God given right to win against any other country.

What an experience to be in the same rooms as Order of Canada members, notable authors and dignitaries, performers, artists. No I did not take an overnight trip to an Olympic event in Vancouver. I was at Summerhill Winery for the Black History Month event last night. I encourage you to take in some of the events (click

Phew! Am I ever glad its Fat Tuesday! Is there one every week? - in my world maybe! It Shrove/Fat/Pancake Tuesday today - AKA Mardi Gras. The last day for you to over-indulge before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent. You know the time of year when you give something up for the next 40 days and then just when you can't take it anymore and you are thinking of eating all the powdered hot chocolate in the second floor staff kitchen - BAM its Easter and Mini Eggs abound. Sooo what are you giving up? Fat? Alcohol? Chocolate? COFFEE!!?? How about social media sites...now that would be a very quiet 40 days...

Dear Fellow Driver: So sorry I couldn't let you into my lane after you raced through the light and up ahead the line of cars. Don't you think its funny that after all your speeding you ended up in the exact spot you started in? True you would have been one car ahead if I had let you in, but I just couldn't do it. I have an adverse reaction to being forced to do something - funnily enough I tend to do the very opposite thing!
Thank you so much for shining you brights in my rearview mirror for the remaining blocks you were behind me. It really allowed me to see more clearly - you're a jerk.

It appears we should be gathering the animals two by two...ummm that was my random reference to the weather. All the rain. Get it...? Anywaaaaaay, after having a day off - which of course I packed a ton of things into and so didn't REALLY feel like a day off - I am back in action. You will be happy to know, or not I guess it depends on how you feel about Jacked In and how you feel about hockey, that there is no scheduled 'proroguing' of the show for the next little bit, thanks to the hockey schedule. In preparation for the onslaught of 5 day work weeks I've been carb-loading. You know, to increase my stamina. Or I could just be trying to find an excuse for all the pasta and bread products I've been eating. Either way its to your benefit...again, that is, depending on how you feel about the show...

I've sprained my toe. It sounds kind of lame but think of how much you walk, plus I usually wear heels and now I've been relegated to runners the last couple of days...not that there's anything wrong with that. See, I love my team sports but I have become, for some time now, one of those people that always has a sports injury. Just ask David - though make sure you have some time on your hands 'cause I'm sure he will GO OFF!! Sprained this, bruised that - never major injuries, just enough for me to limp around and garner sympathy and annoyance from others. But will I stop playing? Hells No. I love every moment of it...yes maybe even the injuries too. So if you have any tips on how to wear heels with a sprained toe...I'm all ears!

Its like I can run all by Sunday blues out...or take it out on the girl checking me. Only if the ref isn't looking though! If you are looking for a great excuse for, well anything really, have I got it for you! This happened to me last night as I was headed off to the gym after work. I had put my gym-bag in the trunk of my car earlier in the afternoon and when I arrived at the gym some 5 hours later I found I could not open my trunk. It had frozen shut. Not the lock -that worked, plus the release inside the vehicle had taken care of that. No the actual seals around the trunk itself had frozen...I could not open it, therefore I could not go to the gym. Voila! BEST EXCUSE EVER! Though it does only work certain times of the year...there is that catch.

Anyone else feel like we went to sleep last week and woke up in Vancouver? While we don't have the traffic jams and 2010 hysteria we do have the weather. The warmth, the incessant rain and then this weird snow. How is it meterologically possible to snow all day and have nothing to show for it at the end? Straaaaaange, hopefully it is translating well on the mountains. But don't mistake this for a complaint, just and observation, this year is shaping up to be an ideal winter for me. I like the white stuff in theory but in practical application...not so much.

Well happy 2010 to you. I hope you had a great holiday season. Did you make any resolutions? I'm not really much of a 'resolutioner' at least not for New Year's. If something is a good idea on January 1 it is a good idea at any date - just sayin. But actually I do make some changes on January 1 - eat less sweets and chocolate and drink less. I don't count those as resolutions mostly because those are specific habits I picked up just because of the holidays...wonder if that is still a resolution...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORK...was it hard to go back to work today or what. If anyone has any ideas of how I can be independently wealthy I am open to hear them. Hope you had an outstanding Christmas full of laughter, fun, family, friends and food. Got big plans for New Year's? Are you a 'party' or a 'low key' New Year's Eve kind of person. I like to mix it up. This year we're going full on (Cabana's Moulin Rouge party). But the last couple have been pretty quiet. I find that if I don't make plans at about 9:30 on NYE I start to get antsy and want to do something...anything...go for a drink, have friends over, go to a big event...something. So this year I planned ahead, now I just have to work up the energy to go...haha!

'Tis the season to have cookies for breakfast. You know I have NO willpower. Most of the year I cut down on sweets and the like by simply not buying them...however this time of year my efforts are to no avail. There are Secret Santa's, Office Parties, House Parties, Dinner Parties and goodies galore and so if you can't beat em...join em. Hence the cookies for breakfast - just after the orange that is - so if you need an excuse, you can use me. Though it would seem I am perpetuating a concern that some are having with the unhealthy image Santa promotes. A report issued in the British Medical Journal accuses Old Saint Nick of being "a reckless role model, who snacks on cookies, occasionally smokes cigars and doesn't wear a helmet during "extreme sports such as roof surfing and chimney jumping." I kid you not...

I'm excited for the big snowfall that is forecasted in the next 24-36 hrs. Not so much that I want to start shovelling the driveway or brusing off the car before I go to work, but typically snow equals warmer temps and I have been freezing my patootie off. And I know I am not alone out there.
This is the final week (this year) of short shows due to hockey - though I can't say it isn't going to happen again in the spring! I end a little bit early on Tuesday and a real early finish on Wednesday and then all is back to normal. Except for Christmas that is.

Yes its another short show today. Jacked In wraps up at 4:30 so we can bring you the Rocket's pre-game show from Regina. Look I never said my job was hard...Now I just don't know what to do with myself being done so early. Go to the gym? Christmas shopping? Have a drink - oh yah that reminds me. Did you hear the BC'ers drink more than any other province other than Nunavut. And our numbers are increasing so rapidly that researchers from UVic suggest
raising booze prices! Scary but true. Actually oddly enought hard alcohol prices were raised on
April 1 of this year so clearly THAT didn't work. Course now with the HST the increased price issue could take care of itself...

Oh the weather outside is frightful...lalalalalala...
Went and finally saw 2012 last night - great end to a weekend o' Christmas parties. Though I have to say it wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped. 2 hours 38 minutes of high anxiety 'world coming to and end' action was almost as exhausting as dancing with Gord Vizzutti at the Astral Christmas party Saturday night. THAT MAN CAN DANCE! Not well...but he can dance, but anyway... I recommend 2012 if you are looking for a great source of escape-ism or if you just want to get away from the -20 degrees.

Okay hands up...Who had to scrape their windshield this morning? This was a first for me..other mornings I could just blast the heat or kill the frost with the waher fluid. But this AM no go. I was going to 'pre-heat' the car, you know leave it running for a bit while I was in the house. But then I thought some jackass would steal it so I decided not to. Nothing cures an outstanding night of eating and drinking with friends like paint fumes. Wrapped up my weekend by finishing off the painting of the bathroom. My own personal penance for festivities at Club 208 on Saturday night for Nuit Scorpio 2009 - gooooooood times. But I digress. Finished my DIY project with minimal cursing and maximum use of my creative side...I am quite pleased. Two tones went on the walls 'Crepe' and 'Chocolate Swirl' - mental note: stop letting my gastronimical desires dictate the rest of my life. Anyway I am very pleased with my efforts and think the entire affair gets me out of painting, or any other home improvement project, for at least 6 months. Or at least until I get bored again...

Well, Here it is - I love the Canucks!! LOL another short show today as we pick - up the Canuck's pregame broadcast at 4:30 - then no show Wednesday due to the Remembrance Day holiday AND THEN no Jacked in on Thursday either as we have yet another early game. What that means - other than I get an early start on re-painting my bathroom, is that on Friday I will have to take a couple extra qualifiers for the Man Cave so keep that in mind and Tune In to Jacked In!. So me and the Paseo survived the Connector and a great weekend in Vancouver. The snow was a little daunting at 6 in the morning on Saturday but nothing good snow tires, a little Mary J Blige and an experienced driver (not me!) couldn't handle.
Friday night was the BCIMA's here in Kelowna and it really was an experience! I suggest you mark you calendars for next year's event because you really missed out if you weren't at the Kelowna Community Theatre. I had no idea there was that much FUNK in this city. Looking for something different? May I suggest you check out Wassabi Collective as well as Shane Koyczan and The Short Story Long, in-freaking-credible. So we made it to Friday so relieved. Very excited about presenting tonight at the BCIMA's. Should be some good fun - try and come out 'cause the way I see it how many awards shows are we going to get to go to in our lifetime? And...what else are ya' gonna do? It be the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

WAKE UP! That's to get you out of that sugar coma I know you are all in. Listen don't tell me you're not sneaking a mini peanut butter cup from Susie's Trick or Treat stash...my mom did it to me and I too am passing along that tradition to the Halloweener in my life. Though, my sugar coma is mostly because of cupcakes. No, we did not hit the mother-load of all Halloween houses that was handing out cupcakes...I got them for my birthday. I requested cupcakes instead of regular cake and through some mis-communication I ended up with twice as many as was orginally intended - OOOPS!!! LOL. So enjoy your mini chocolate bars, sweetarts, licorice and that god-awful noname orange chewy candy I'll stick to my Boston Cream filled cupcake...and then move on the Turtles one...and not to forget the Classic Chocolate --- YUM!!

Violent crimes in Kelowna are 3 times that of the same size commmunities in Ontario and well above the National average - surprised? Superintendent Bill McKinnon isn't and I think that says a lot. This is no longer the small town utopia of old people - there are some real issues here in Kelowna and they must be addressed. I'll be speaking with Bill McKinnon at 4:10 today...

Today was a day to get all those little things done that I have been putting off. Ever have one of those days? I hate doing them on the weekend because then I feel as though I am being cheated out of a weekend...ya know? Weekends are for laundry and yard work and that kind of stuff. I'm talking about those things you have been putting off for a long time allowing the mental to do list to get longer and longer. I took some boots in to get re-soled. As we are getting back into boot season (ladies) I thought the timing was good. I also made an appointment to have my car alarm disabled (shhhh don't tell the thieves). Its an after market alarm and seems to have a mind of its own - it goes off at the most in opportune times. I paid a parking ticket - which I thought about disputing but that would have taken much more effort and time than I was willing to put out. I also sent a bunch of overdue emails to friends abroad. The only thing about checking things off the running to do list in my head is that when all is said and done there is no one there to say 'Good Job!' Because its my own list - no one else's, so no one really cares. You have a sense of accomplishment but typically not a lot to show for it. No worries though I'll pat my own back. Whatever it takes to get me out of mowing the lawn! HA!

My feet still hurt from the Terasen Gas Gourmet and Grapes event last night. It was a smash success and the event was sold out at Cabana Grille. It was so much fun to work with Phil Johnson - though we work in the same building, studio even our opposite schedules does not often allow for us to work together - so that was cool. Thanks to all who came out and hope you had a great time - nice to meet so many of you - as well as at the Capri Consumer Choice Tasing on Friday. LOVE WINE Fest. Okay I KNOW its almost October and I know that it is an anomoly that we are still getting days into the 20+ but by no stretch of the imagination am I ready for snow. Luckily its not down here where we are - but possibly on the connector! Too soon...TOO SOON! There may still be a couple of trips to the coast I want to take and the Paseo cannot handle slippery, snowy Connector. Maybe this too will be an anomoly.

I approach this day with trepidation. Not because I am interviewing Mia Farrow...though I am a bit nervous about that. Not because the Rockets are down 0-2 for the season and are about to start a home and home series with the 2-0 Blazers. Noooooo its because tonight is the kid's party - the 13 yr old's dance party/sleepover and as its already been a long week and I have only about two nerves left I KNOW they will be on them in no time. Wish me luck.
Yes I said Mia Farrow - she will be on telling her truly inspirational story of humanitarianism - so looking forward to it. Oh and all the usual Friday Fav's too...

Would you believe I went back to the 'A little more than a Dollar Store' today? Apparently the $40 I spent yesterday is not enough...dropped another $20 today. Okay - this is now cutting into my vino budget. But hey if this is what it takes to get the 13yr old to smile---well worth it---and there are those of you out there who know what I'm talking about. If you don't then count your blessings!
LOL - did you hear two poeple got busted in the HOV lane?! Man would I love to talk to them...were they legitimate infractions or at the officer's discretion...hmmmm would love to know that one.

How is it possible I spent $40 dollars at the dollar store today? I was purchasing birthday party items for the kid - its her 13th. A little weary of the whole event but I thought ahead and picked up my own supplies for the evening as I am sure the sound of 5 giggling, screeching, Hannah Montana singing 'teens' that will be piercing my eardrums Friday night will only be dulled by a nice glass of Malbec or 3. But now I'm off topic. Does anyone else have a problem with items being more than a dollar at The Dollar Store? Not slagging the prices, don't get me wrong, just sayin' don't say its a dollar store of things are more than a dollar. Call it something else. Like About a Dollar Store, or Around a Dollar Store...or The Cheap Store. And if you have any suggesting on how to get through an night of chaperone a 13th birthday party sleep over I'm all ears. That is until approximately 9pm Friday night when I'll be all red wine and ear plugs.

Well after all the drama in the weather this morning it sure has turned into a lovely day. I totally got busted in the rain coming out of the gym in a tank top - all of a sudden my wardrobe was highly inappropriate - oh well! But it is about that weather I want to further discuss - no not another meteorologis this time in regards to pets. Does your dog act like a COMPLETE IDIOT when a storm is a brewin'? Mine does and it drives me NUTS. I start off with sympathy but that quickly wears out to irritation. Brad Pattison from the Slice TV show 'At the end of my leash' will be on this aft to give us the goods on what to do. Plus I'm going to ask him why he always seems so cranky on the show. That should go over well.

Lovely walk to work today - I have GOT to do that more. Great exercise but also two things happened that made me smile. 1) two young (like maybe 15) shirtless 'punks' were walking along the sidewalk towards me. I was thinking that I would have to step down onto the street to get past them, but I was wrong. Not only did one of them pause and move to one side but he smiled, looked me in the eye and said 'Hello!'. TOTALLY UNEXPECTED. 2) then I saw a women who was clearly in her late 60's go zooming by in a Red 2007 Ford Mustang - I fell out laughing. Faith is restored! I shall walk to work more often.

He was one of my first interviews when I moved to Kelowna 4 years ago and was working as a reporter for Shaw TV's Okanagan Today. I interviewed Councillor Brian Given to promote a fundraising event that featured the latest Ford Mustang convertible as the Grand Prize Giveaway. I remember the car was red. Brian suggested, to make the interview a little more interesting, we sit on top of the back seats...but because he only had the car on loan from the dealership for the interview we had to take our shoes off so we didn't scratch the leather. He was very patient, as it was one of my first interviews and required a few takes, and very supportive. But is was our second meeting that lasts in my memory. It was about a month later I was standing near my basement suit on Dilworth Mountain waiting for the bus, as anyone without a vehicle who has lived on Dilworth knows that can be a long wait! Brian, who lived just down the street, happened to drive by and offered me a lift to work, which I gladly took. I rememeber that day for two reasons. One because coming from Vancouver I could not imagine something so amicable as a city councillor giving a person of the media a drive to work. Second, and most importantly, the move to Kelowna was a difficult one for me and a new town, new job, no friends and a less than ideal transit system was making a hard situation even harder. The offer of a ride that day made me feel as though maybe things weren't going to be so bad afterall. In the years since I have often run into Brian, he always said hi, and I always made sure to tell him how much it impacted me - the simple offer of a ride to work. My condolences to the Given family, he will be greatly missed.
