The Bridge Youth Family Services to create 4 spaces

Four new withdrawal management beds have been created in Kelowna to open in March.

Interior Health says a contract has been awarded to The Bridge Youth & Family Services as part of a move to create 16 new detox beds in three communities.

The beds in Kelowna will support youth through the early stages of withdrawal from alcohol or other substances.

Interior Health says its opening a total of 16 new spaces in three communities – part of a commitment to create 73 new substance use treatment beds, including 57 support recovery beds.

The province says these beds and other services are part of a range of measures supporting the overdose crisis response.

The government says it has opened more than 300 substances use spaces in the past three years and hopes to reach its goal of 500 by March 31st.
