Province funds training for child care workers in Okanagan

The YMCA of Okanagan is receiving 123,000, which will put up to 12 people through 23 weeks of classroom and onthejob training. 

There may be more spaces in local daycares coming as the province has announced a project that will fund people to become early childhood educator assistants.

The YMCA of Okanagan is receiving $123,000, which will put up to 12 people through 23 weeks of classroom and on-the-job training. 

Those who finish the program will be elgible to work as an assistant with children aged 12 years and under. 

The province hopes the project will increase employment for EI-eligible job seekers while filling a labour gap in the child-care sector in the Okanagan.
