Kelowna International tops 1.7million passengers
The final numbers are in for 2016, and Kelowna International Aiport reports passenger numbers surpassed 1.7-million – an increase of 8.7%.
The total for 2016 was 1,732,113 that's nearly 140,000 additional travellers.
The busiest month for the airport was December with 166,537 travellers coming through the gates, beating out the previous record-breaking month of August at 160,846.
YLW Director Sam Samaddar says the increase in passenger traffic means an increase in tourism, a boost to the regional economy and additional support for local businesses.
He says there are several reasons for the increase including the launch of new routes and airlines, as well as increased capacity on current destinations.
Nearly every month in 2016 saw growth, ranging from 4 to 17%, and Sammadar says an additional 3% growth is expected in 2017.
