The Kelowna man who was found murdered in a rural area south of Penticton last week has been identified as 27-year-old Dean Jefferey Gillette.

RCMP say the preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound.

His body was discovered beside Willowbrook Road near Highway 3A on January 17. A truck fire was also found in the area the same day but police are investigating whether it's connected to the homicide.

Police believe Gillette was targeted but no arrests have been made. They are now working to establish Gillette's movements in the 24 hours before his body was discovered last Tuesday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP.
