Freedom House to build complex in Rutland

A residence for men recovering from addictions and mental health issues is planned for Rutland.

Freedom House, a faith-based charity, hopes to build the complex at McCurdy and Rutland Roads and is looking to raise $3.1-million dollars in development money. They've already applied to the City of Kelowna for a re-zoning application.

The group operates a total of 5 duplexes in Kelowna housing 50 men – and usually has a waiting list of 30 to 40.

In a news release – Freedom House says the dilemma for men graduating their program is a lack of clean, affordable and supportive housing in order to help them remain sober.

Construction of the residence is expected to start within the year to be finshed in 2019.
