Cyclist hit by car, sent to hospital

Police say woman wasnt wearing a helmet when she crashed

Kelowna RCMP are looking for witnesses after a woman on a bike was hit by a car this morning.

It happened just before 8 am, when the biker was turning left off of Elm Street onto Bernard, and rode directly in front of a car heading the same direction.

The 20-year-old on the bike was knocked into the windshield of the car before falling to the ground, and was taken to hospital.

She was not wearing a helmet at the time, and police say that witnesses at the scene reported she was initially knocked unconscious.

Fortunately, she's expected to recover from all injuries.

Police also say the 35-year-old driver of the car stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with police.

The RCMP are reminding people that not only will helmets keep you much safer, you can also be fined for not wearing one.
