Public hearing on the way for mega waterfront development

New apartments would be up to 19 storeys, add 350 units

A 350-unit waterfront housing project called "Aqua" will be opened up for public feedback in a couple weeks.

Mission Group is proposing to build three buildings, with each ranging in height from 13 to 19 storeys, on Capozzi Road – just off of Lakeshore and south of Hotel Eldorado.

The project is an updated version of a design that was originally delivered in 2008, but wasn't eventually carried out.

The new project has ground-floor townhomes beneath apartment units, along with a 200-boat storage facility that includes a private boat launch.

The design also includes a public boardwalk along the beach, and is being designed so that construction is done in three phases, which would give it a timeline of five to seven years.

Council has approved a re-zoning request for the property, and will host a public hearing for the project on May 2.

After that, Mission Group would have to get council's permission on a development permit.
