Man in his 50s taken to hospital
There was drama in downtown West Kelowna when a vehicle crashed in front of Papa John's Pizza over the noon hour Friday.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue freed the driver of the car, a man in his 50's, with the "jaws of life" before taking him to hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says police believe a man in his 70's was pulling out of the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, when he was struck by a southbound vehicle on Highway 97, sending the southbound car into a pillar in front of the restaurant.
"It seems as though that the driver pulling out into traffic may not have cleared the lane prior to pulling out, but again that's still under investigation and charges have not yet been laid," he says.
O'Donaghey says there were no pedestrians in the area at the time, so there were no injuries to any other persons on the sidewalk or in relation to the business.
He says the investigation is on-going, and police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact RCMP.
