Those who are ready to cast their vote in the upcoming provincial election can do so starting this weekend, with the start of advance voting.
Polls will be open Saturday, Sunday and May 3-6 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Andrew Watson with Elections BC says advance voting has gained popularity over the years.
“In the 1996 general election about 5% or 6% of the total ballots cast were cast at advance voting and if you look at the chart, that’s gone up basically each election since then.”
20% of votes were cast in advance in the 2013 election.
He says efforts have been made to increase the availability of advance voting. This year, there are 6 advance voting days compared to 4 in 2013 and there are more locations to cast an advance ballot.
Watson says there are 16 places in Kelowna's 3 districts’ that will offer advanced voting at various times.

Polls will also be open on the general voting day, May 9.
