BC Wildfire officials say hot weather ahead is concerning
Wildfire officials are warning about the coming stretch of hot weather.
Max Birkner at the Kamloops Fire Centre says while flooding is still a big concern in the Okanagan, other areas not affected by floodwaters are drying out quickly.
He says so far this year, 14 fires have burned 18 hectares of land – with 5 fires still burning.
"And all of those fires are still under investigation, but it is suspected there has been some fire use involved. There have been no lightning-caused fires recently in the Kamloops Fire Centre," he says.
Birkner says the fires, they've recently dealt with, were all caused by human carelessness – he says it's extremely important to make sure your campfire is completely out before leaving an area.
He says for now small campfires, a half-metre by half-metre in size, are still allowed in the region.
