We could see a lot of mosquitoes in the Okanagan this summer.
Experts say it could be a bad season for mosquitoes in the Okanagan thanks to a wet spring, flood conditions and warmer temperatures.
That can be the ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes, but Regional District spokesman Bruce Smith says residents can help by getting rid of any standing water on their property.
"Rain barrels should have a cover and a screen to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs in the water. At least twice a week standing water should be drained from containers under plant pots or garbage cans and birth baths, wading pools and pet bowls".
Since early April, crews have been out monitoring and treating mosquito larvae in about 200 known breeding locations across the Central Okanagan.
Smith says in the coming weeks, more than 10-thousand roadside catch basins will be checked and treated if necessary.
