A Provincial Court Judge in Kamloops has been appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Kelowna.
Federal Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould announced the appointment of Justice Leonard Marchand and two other judges on Friday.
They were appointed under a new judicial application process announced last October, meant to ensure transperancy and diversity among judges.
Marchand, who's father was former Kamloops MP Len Marchand Sr, was a lawyer for 18 years before becoming a provincial judge in 2013.
His law career included helping negotiate the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, the largest class action settlement in Canadian history.
Marchand will replace Justice Alison Beams, who has chosen to become a part-time judge in November.
