Suspect, who fled into back country, busted

Hitchhiker matching suspects description picked up on Hwy 33

A man, who fled into the back-country to avoid RCMP, has been arrested.

The drama began just before noon Tuesday, when police were called to a domestic assault at a home in the Big White area.

On the way, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle – and when they tried to pull it over – the suspect fled.

The vehicle was eventually located by RCMP Air Services, abandoned along a Forestry Service Road, but the man managed to avoid capture by several RCMP officers from multiple jurisdictions, a helicopter, and a police dog.

Police say tips from the public led RCMP to Highway 33, between Westbridge and Rock Creek, where a hitchhiker – matching the man's description – was arrested at around 8:30 am Wednesday.

A 27-year-old Kelowna man, was expected to appear in court Wednesday, facing potential charges.
