EOC estimates lake could remain high until end of July
A Special Weather Statement, issued earlier this week by Envrionment Canada, is continuing as we head into the weekend.
The weather office says the Okanagan remains under an unstable airmass – there's a slight of rain today and tonight, but the winds will remain strong gusting up to 50-kilometres-an-hour from the south.
With high water levels in the Okanagan, this will generate waves that could lead to shoreline flooding and erosion.
Conditions are expected to improve Saturday and Sunday with lighter winds, a mix of sun and cloud, and seasonal highs near 24 degrees.
In the past 24 hours, Okanagan Lake dropped 7 mms, but still sits above its record flood stage at 343.206 metres – Kal Lake is down by just 1 mm to 392.385 metres above sea level.
Meantime, emergency officials estimate it won't be until the end of July before Okanagan Lake gets back to more normal levels.
