Province to pay 100 of response 80 of recovery

Dealing with this year's flood response and recovery will cost the City of Kelowna upwards of $10-million.

Director Financial Services Genelle Davidson says – while final numbers won't be available for a few more months – the city spent about $2.5-million on the flood response and around $7-million for recovery efforts.

She says the State of Emergency declaration in May means the province is expected to reimburse the city fully for the response – but only 80% of the recovery and clean-up efforts.

Because the recovery phase could take up to 18 months, Davidson says her departmennt will prepare a report for council with an estimate of the city's 20% share.

That report will be presented to councillors this fall around the time of the 2018 budget proposal.
