Suspected arsonist arrested in Kelowna

RCMP believe 34yearold man is linked to 5 fires

Kelowna RCMP say a surveillance video image released to the media helped in tracking down a suspected arsonist.

RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says that not long after the image was shared, an employee of a local business recognized the male.

The photo showed a man fleeing the scene of a fire on Springfield Road and Burtch Avenue on Monday.

O'Donaghey says on Wednesday morning they got a call the man had been spotted, and officers arrested him at Gordon Drive and Harvey Avenue – the 34-year-old South Okanagan man remains in custody.

Police believe he may have started four other fires in the city, including a fire in some wooden pallets behind the 7-11, at Gordon and Bernard, that spread to a nearby duplex.
