A female Mountie is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after a distraught man rammed his car into her police cruiser Sunday afternoon.

Kelowna and Lake Country RCMP were responding to reports of the 66-year-old Kelowna man causing a disturbance outside his home in the 700 block of Beaver Lake Road.

Officers tried to de-escalate the situation but the man got into his car and rammed one of the police cars twice before fleeing.

Using unmarked police cars and an RCMP helicopter, the man was safely monitored and apprehended under the Mental Health Act when he came back home.

He was transported to hospital for a full medical assessment and faces potential charges.
