Data breach at Interior Health

Patient records not involved

Interior Health is looking into a data breach involving 500 current and former employees.

The agency says the information was found in the possession of two people arrested by Lower Mainland RCMP.

Mal Griffin, Vice-President for Human Resources, says alongside the RCMP – they have external security and privacy experts investigating – and that the breach does not involve patient information.

Interior Health first learned of the breach in late June after Mounties arrested a person in possession of the personal information of a number of IH employees.

Then on September 20th, IH was notified of a similar situation involving a different individual.

Both incidents have also been reported to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
