Its winter tire time again in BC

Winter tires required on designated highways starting Oct 1st

The Ministry of Transportation has issued a reminder that winter tire regulations go into effect in BC this Sunday, October 1st.

Winter tires are labelled with either the Mountain Snowflake – or the Mud and Snow (M+S) symbols – and are required if you're travelling on designated highways around the province.

Winter tires must also be in good condition with a minimum tread depth of 3.5 mm

Signs are posted to identify these highways – which are usually through mountain passes or where's there's a significant increase in elevation.

Drivers caught on designated routes, without the proper winter tires, can receive a fine of $121 – and drivers who don't have the minimum tread depth on their tires (3.5mm) on the designated routes can receive a fine of $109.
