BC SPCA asking for donations to help 9 puppy mill dogs

Branch Manager Sean Hogan says the smallbreed dogs, which range in age from 4 to 11 years old came into their care about 2 weeks ago.

9 dogs that were part of a puppy mill are now in the care of Kelowna's BC SPCA.

Branch Manager Sean Hogan says the small-breed dogs, which range in age from 4 to 11 years old came into their care about 2 weeks ago.

“A number of them need major dentals done, rotting teeth out of their poor little mouths,” he says “We’ve already had them groomed and relieved them of that distress that they came in, fully matted and full of dirt and soil and feces.”

He says the dogs are also very fearful of people, and the shelter is working on their behavioural issues.

“Many of them have never seen a leach before; we’ve had to help a number of them adjust to eating from a dish, just even being around strangers.”

The BC SPCA is asking for donations to help cover the $15,000 to $20,000 it will cost to help the dogs recover.  They’re also looking for people who are interested in adopting one of the dogs to come forward.
