Stormy weather coming to Okanagan

High wind gusts are the main concern

A low pressure system, on its way into the Central Okanagan, is expected to bring stormy weather by midday Tuesday.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says it'll bring with it a chance of showers and high winds..

"Particularily further north up into the Shuswap and up towards Vernon and Kamloops – where there could be wind warnings with gusts to 90 kph in the forecast. Down here in the central and southern part of the Okanagan it'll be a little less, maybe only gusting to 50, 60 or 70 kph, but we have to watch that front, because if it comes a little closer to us, we could see some really, really high winds," he says.

Lundquist says there won't be much significant rain in Kelowna in the next few days – but the upper elevation highways could see a lot of snow – very quickly – by Tuesday evening which will make driving hazardous.

He says conditions are expected to improve in the mountain passes by Wednesday.
