Flood damage in several regional parks 2million

Regional District says bridges badly damaged

Staff at the Regional District of the Central Okanagan have been working on securing government funding to help pay for repairs to flood damage from this spring.

RDCO spokesperson Bruce Smith says the damage is estimated at $2.0 million to six parks – four of which remain closed.

"They are Hardy Falls, Mill Creek, the Fintry Community Park Access #1 Boat Launch and Killiney Beach Community Park – and the parks that are open but with restricted capacity are Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park and Glen Canyon Regional Park the upper sections," he says.

Smith says the flood waters did extensive damage to bridges – at Hardy Falls and Mill Creek especially – in some cases, carving out channels around them creating bridge islands.

He says it could take 12 to 18 months to make repairs.

“In the meantime” Smith says ”you still have plenty of time before the snow flies to get out and enjoy some great fall visits to any one of the other 28 Regional Parks that are open.
