Cook to run in datetobedetermined byelection
The NDP has named its candidate for the upcoming byelection in Kelowna West.
Shelley Cook, who ran against then-Premier Christy Clark back in May, will be on the ballot once again.
She says circumstances have changed in the months since then, but that people's issues haven't.
"As a constituent in the riding, I obviously continue to talk to people. I know my community, issues related to affordability are first and foremost in people's minds, we look at access to healthcare, transportation is front of mind, all those sorts of things," she said.
Cook will be running against Liberal nominee Ben Stewart, who's won twice in the riding before, but gave up his seat to Clark in 2013.
She says people haven't forgotten that Stewart gave up his seat for Clark four years ago.
"There's been quite a few changes as we recognize – it's a different government in power and I think sometimes that certainly has an impact on how people think about voting, " she said.
"I think there's certainly some questions in the minds of constituents in Kelowna West, around Mr. Stewart and his vacating the post."
Premier John Horgan has yet to announce a date for the byelection.
Cook won 25 percent of the vote earlier this year.
