New restaurant to be added at Reids Corner
Another McDonald's restaurant is coming to Kelowna.
Developers are planning to add it onto Old Vernon Road, a couple hundred metres east of Sexsmith.
Planner Terry Barton says it's becoming a popular spot for commercial properties.
"We've seen a lot of interest for commercial properties in this area, stretching from this area all the way up to the airport, including the Pier Mac lands," he said.
"(There's) a section of 2-3 km, and seems to be an area that our development industry is targeting for further commercial expansion."
At Monday's meeting, council approved the elimination of an old land-use contract that had been signed in the 70s, and was preventing a restaurant.
In 2014, the province ordered municipalities to eliminate all the old contracts over the next decade.
