Murder trial tentatively scheduled for January

Jay Thomson, 61, accused of killing Theresa Neville.

A 61-year-old Kelowna man charged with the 2013 murder of Therese Neville could stand trial in January of 2019.

Jay Sinclaire Thomson was arrested last November following a lengthy police investigation that nearly went cold, as over four years had passed since Neville was discovered dead inside a Kelowna residence in June of 2013.

On Monday morning, crown counsel requested that the trial begin on October 1st, as originally scheduled and span six weeks.

Defence attorney Grant Gray told the court he was unavailable for a trial at that time, also mentioning that he felt six weeks was excessive for what he called a “fact-driven case.”

Both the crown and defence agreed that a trial date in January would work best, with Gray saying he would confirm his availability for that time.

The exact trial date is set to be decided and announced in court on Monday, May 7th.
