Four injured in December 2015 collision.
A 44-year-old Kelowna man will spend 90 days in jail for injuring four people while driving drunk.
At around 3 AM on December 13th, 2015, after crashing into a taxi in Rutland and sending its four passengers to hospital, Wilfredo Elnas was arrested at the scene of the collision.
RCMP found that his blood alcohol level at the time of the incident was over twice the legal limit of .08%.
The four passengers of the taxi were treated for injuries ranging from whiplash to a severe concussion.
The court heard the two vehicles involved in the crash sustained an estimated $82,000 in damages.
Elnas plead guilty to four charges of causing a collision resulting in an injury, expressing remorse for his actions prior to his sentencing on Wednesday afternoon.
The 90 day sentence is intermittent; meaning that he will spend every weekend in jail until the full 90 days have been served.
He was also given 3 years of probation, as well as a 3-year driving ban.
Despite having no previous criminal record, Elnas has a total of 8 driving suspensions since 2001.
When handing down the sentence, the judge said she was doubtful that ICBC would give Elnas a driving permit following his driving ban.
