No charges in weapons complaint

Suspect had a brief standoff with police

Kelowna RCMP responded to a weapons complaint Thursday morning on Gaston Avenue, near the RCMP detachment.

Around 8:40 AM, a man was seen in the area sharpening what appeared to be a knife, prompting the call to police.

When officers recognized and approached the man, he did not immediately cooperate with police, and brandished the weapon.

Police were able to perform a high-risk arrest, and take the man into police custody.

Following a brief investigation, the man was released, and does not currently face any criminal charges.

His identity has not been released to the public.
