Bigger fireworks display at Westside Daze

The free event takes place this Canada Day weekend

The Westside Daze festival is returning to West Kelowna this Canada Day weekend for its 45th year.

The free three-day event features a parade, a kids fair, and live entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

As for the fireworks display, a sponsorship from the Mission Hill Family Estate is putting an extra $7,000 towards the firework display on Saturday night, making the total firework budget for this year’s festival approximately $17,000.

“Even though they’re going to be the same 12 to 14 minutes, there’s going to be a lot more ‘boom’ and ‘bang’ in that 12 to 14 minutes,” says festival president Leah Thordarson.

The fireworks are specifically taking place one day before Canada Day, so that it doesn’t compete with the fireworks shows in Kelowna and Peachland on July 1st.

To accommodate the festivities on the Saturday, the following closures will be in effect:

  • 8:00 a.m. to noon for staging
    • Brenda Lee Road
    • Gossett Road from Brown Road to Butt Road
    • Bering Road from Elliott Road to Old Okanagan Highway
  • 9:00 a.m. to noon for staging
    • Butt Road from Elliott Road to Old Okanagan Highway
  • 10:00 to noon for parade route
    • Old Okanagan Highway from Butt Road to Drought Road
    • Drought Road from Old Okanagan Highway to Brown Road
    • Brown Road from Drought Road to Butt Road

Residents in the affected areas will still have access to and from their homes.
