Rob Mayne remembered after sudden death
Kelowna council and city staff paid tribute to one of their own at City Hall on Monday afternoon.
A moment of silence was held for Rob Mayne, the director of corporate services who suddenly died last Thursday morning.
Mayor Colin Basran described him as quiet leader who made many important contributions.
"Rob was Divisional Director of Corporate Services, which is a huge portfolio that includes police services, bylaw services, fire services, purchasing services, and the Office of the City Clerk. As you can see from just a few of the quotes posted on our internal website, Rob was loved and admired for his humble and thoughtful approach to leadership."
Basran also talked about the scope of his work, since starting as a senior accountant back in 1991.
"He was an accomplished manager, and insightful about many aspects of work here at the City. What really shines through is how he treated people, both inside and outside the organization. He held several positions in the financial services department, and in the real estate division, where he was involved in many important transactions, including the negotiations for what was to become the UBCO campus," he said.
The mayor also became emotional as he reflected on the loss.
"We wanted to take a moment today to express our condolences to his partner Martina, his three adult boys – Curtis, Brandon, and Travis – and all of his family and friends. He was a really good, really smart man. And we're all going to miss our friend Rob."
Mayne was 54-years-old.
