All three occupants of the crashed vehicle avoided serious injuries
Kelowna RCMP are investigating a serious single vehicle collision that happened in City Park at the end of Harvey Avenue Sunday evening.
Evidence at the scene suggest that, around 7 PM, the driver lost control, skidded 200 feet, went through bushes and a chain link fence, rolled down an embankment, took out an electrical box, and finally stopped after hitting a tree.
The three occupants, ages 25, 32, and 32, were helped out of the vehicle by witnesses. None of the three were wearing seatbelts, but miraculously avoided any serious injuries.
“It was also extremely lucky that no one else was involved in the collision as that location is highly populated with motor vehicle traffic and pedestrians, ” says RCMP Constable Lesley Smith.
Officers arrived at the scene, finding car parts and other debris scattered as far away as 200 feet.
Police are saying that excessive speeding of approximately 150 km/hr, as well as alcohol, were major factors in the crash. They are still trying to determine which of the three occupants was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
