Temperatures expected to reach the low to midthirties
Next week in Kelowna is looking hot, with highs forecasted to be in the low to mid-thirties range.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says this could lead to a rare type of warning for the Okanagan.
“We might have to put out a heat warning if we meet a certain criteria for a certain length of time,” says Lundquist. “It’s looking unusually warm for a long period of time.”
A heat warning is called when two or more days reach 35 degrees or higher, while nighttime lows go down to 18 degrees.
If the warning comes into effect: stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and don't leave your kids or pets inside your car.
The month of May experienced record highs in Kelowna, and with hot weather that’s normally reserved for July happening this month, June could be another record-setter.
