Police cracking down on drinking and driving
Kelowna RCMP will be conducting CounterAttack roadchecks, once again, to crack down on impaired driving this Canada Day long weekend.
ICBC's Road Safety Manager Christine Kirby says drunk-driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada – and one of the top three causes for fatal crashes in BC.
"We see that on this long weekend, the average of 25 people are injured in 120 crashes in the Southern Interior, so we just team up with the RCMP to make sure the stop checks are out there," she says
Kirby reminds you there are lots of options – arranging a designated driver, calling a taxi or taking transit – there's no excuse to drive impaired.
Kelowna RCMP Corporal Tania Carroll says between June 30th and July 2nd last year – police made 4 impaired driving arrests – and handed out 6 Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.
