Vancouver Career College blames trouble caused by homeless
Vancouver Career College in downtown Kelowna has announced it's cancelling new classes – and is contemplating relocating – with the reason being the increasing number of homeless in the area.
Used needles, garbage, human waste and smashed windows have become a big problem for the college on Pandosy Street – and in an email to AM 1150, Regional Vice-President Edward Jonathan says "the prevailing situation makes it very unsafe for our students and staff".
He says all application fees have been refunded – but existing students can finish their courses.
Nearby Leon Avenue has become a haven for the homeless in Kelowna, with the Gospel Mission and Cornerstone shelters, both operating year-round.
