3rd animal cruelty billboard arrives
Another cruelty-to-animals billboard has popped up, the third of its kind in the Central Okanagan, since last December.
The latest is near the corner of Old Okanagan Highway and Highway 97 in Westbank.
It shows pictures of pigs and chickens in dire living conditions, and reads, ‘Meet your bacon and eggs’ and ‘ Keep cruelty off your plate.’ The first 2 ads were funded by local donations. LUSH Cosmetics paid for this new billboard.
“We sell a lotion in our shops called ‘Charity Pot.’ 100% of the sale price goes into a fund, which we grant out to non-profits, charities that are working in animal welfare, environmental justice and human rights,” says LUSH Grant Specialist, Deena Guffei.
LUSH Cosmetics paid for the ad to be up until next June, on behalf of Kelowna Animal Action. “Our involvement in raising awareness of the voiceless – animals involved in various industries –has definitely been part of our history and this was an opportunity to elevate what Kelowna Animal Action felt was a really important message to their community,” says Guffei.
LUSH's lone Kelowna location is in Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
