Airports Safety Week Sept 17 to 21
It's Airports Safety Week across Canada.
Kelowna International Airport (YLW), along with 29 airports across Canada started the airport-led initiative on Monday, to promote healthy and safe work practices among airport employees.
“At Kelowna International Airport, every team member makes it his or her priority to ensure the airport remains safe, secure and operational,” said Sam Samaddar, Airport Director. “We value our employees and it’s important that they return home safely at the end of every shift. Safety Week is just one way we are working to keep safety top of mind.”
Day 1 – Monday, September 17: Worker Safety
Day 2 – Tuesday, September 18: Airside Safety
Day 3 – Wednesday, September 19: Security Safety
Day 4 – Thursday, September 20: Hazard Reporting and Environmental Safety
Day 5 – Friday, September 21: Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Free Friday
Instructors will accompany staff in their work settings this week, for practical, hands-on training but travel time is not expected to change for passengers. “We’ve programmed this in such a way, the educational sessions are happening so that we don’t affect aircraft coming in and out,” said Samaddar.
Canadian Airports Safety Week was first launched in 2015 by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, with 24 participating airports.
