Captain Troy Russell served with the WKFD for 20 years
A longtime West Kelowna firefighter passed away on Tuesday, September 25th, following a yearlong battle with brain cancer.
Captain Troy Russell served with the West Kelowna Fire Department for 20 years, and his cancer was said to have started as a result of his firefighting career.
According to the Department's Facebook page, Russell was awarded a medal for his many years of service less than two weeks ago, with photos showing him still confined to his bed.
Flags are currently at half mast at City Hall, municipal buildings, and fire halls in West Kelowna in honour of Captain Russell, and details on a memorial service are expected in the coming days.
