New regs for Airbnb proposed for Kelowna

Staff report to city council on Monday

Changes could be coming soon to the rules around Airbnb rentals in Kelowna.

On Monday, city council will hear a staff report outlining new regulations for short-term rental accommodations. Included will be business licences and a cap on the number of people allowed to stay per rental.

The planning department is proposing a one-year license of $345-dollars, if the unit is the owner's principle residence, and $750 dollars otherwise.

Also in the new regulations, a short-term rental can be NO longer than 29 days. The maximum number of people per rental will be six, depending on how the neighbourhood is zoned.
