Downtown Kelowna crime spikes

RCMP report to city council on Monday has the details

We've all been noticing the trend. On Monday at Kelowna council, RCMP Superintendent Brent Mundle will confirm that crime is up in the city's downtown.

In his report, he'll detail property crime is up 23-percent, assaults more than doubled to 63 and other offences rose from a total of 100 last year, to 175 this year.

Mundle will also report that across the city, property crime spiked from just over 7-thousand cases to over 8,200. Bicycle thefts, and thefts from unlocked vehicles led the way.

He says RCMP foot patrols have already been increased downtown to try and curb the crime wave.
