New Energy Specialist position approved

Will focus on key energy initiatives in Kelowna

The City of Kelowna and Fortis BC will be signing a new Community Energy Specialist to a two-year contract by the end of the year.

This specialist will work on key energy initiatives, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings, developing Kelowna's electric vehicle strategy, and the production of renewable natural gas at a local waste treatment plant

City Sustainability Coordinator Tracy Guidi says the entire community will benefit from this new position.

“There are hopefully going to be new ways to reduce energy use in your home or in your business, or by using different types of vehicles to get around,” she says. “It’s also a great benefit because there’s no tax impact to get these things done.”

The position stems from a one-year pilot project, in which a specialist helped develop the Energy Step Code, and sought grants for electric vehicle chargers in Kelowna.
