Other union members in support of CUPW fight
Kelowna and area members of the Canadian Union of Postal workers are feeling the love as they deliver the mail under Federal back to work legislation.
Local CUP-W President Mathew Aitken says he's been stopped numerous times on his route. He says, "I get stopped by people saying I've been legislated back to work in my job and it sucks. I get stopped by other union members just offering support. There's a lot of support out there for what we're going through."
Aitken is frustrated with his union having their right to collective bargaining taken away, but he's not surprised because it has happened before. He does not expect a return to the bargaining table. Aitken believes Canada Post will wait it out until binding arbitration is imposed.
In the meantime, he says are doing their best to get the postal system back to normal as soon as possible.
In Vancouver today, the BC Federation of Labour is holding a rally to support posties. Outgoing Federation President Irene Lanzinger says she's angry over the government's move saying the strikes were not a huge inconvenience for Canadians.
